As the seasons come and go, it can be overwhelming to figure out what you should be adding to your cart over the next three months. That’s why we have done all the guesswork for you and found four key trends for Summer 2019. This translates to less time spent on a laptop looking for the next big thing and more time accepting all the compliments because you’re already wearing it.

Here are four key trends you’ll love wearing this summer.

Neutral Hues

Browns and warm neutrals will be a big colour trend for the coming season. We have seen trickles of these hues over the past year, but it’s here in full force this summer. Like with any trend, it’s your decision on how to incorporate it into your wardrobe. If you have a softly-softly approach when it comes to new trends, start with a pair of chocolate coloured sandals from A.EMERY or the Side Button Panelled Dress from Christopher Esber, which features a tan lining. These are subtle ways to add hints of neutral into your black and white style. On the other hand, if you’ve been on the brown bandwagon since early July, try styling a rich terracotta colour into your outfits.  The Square Neck Maxi Dress in Tan is about as bold as it gets for a minimalist.

Extra tip: Brown is a great colour for swimwear! Wade into the trend with a bikini from Peony Swim in Brown Freckle.

Oversized Shape

Possibly born out of practicality rather than style, oversized silhouettes is a trend that will keep us looking and feeling cool this summer. Flowing and fluid pieces can create a relaxed look but don’t be fooled by the term oversized. Just because something is labelled oversized shouldn’t mean that it’s void of all shape and structure. To flatter your figure when styling looser-fitting pieces, look for clothes that can be cinched in at the waist, like the oversized belted jackets by Michael Lo Sordo and Christopher Esber.

Tiered Everything

Tiered skirts and dresses are a shape we will be seeing more of over the coming months. Brands such as Matin, Marle and Merlette (keep an eye out for this newcomer at the UNDONE) all featured tiered elements in their designs and in doing so have created our favourite silhouette for the summer.  A tiered dress or skirt fits the fun and flirty description without the shortened hemline and busy floral prints.

Linen

We don’t think this trend will come as a shock to anyone; linen is the textile trend of summer. It has always been a favourite, but you’ll see it across the board this season. Linen has become the fabric of choice for many brands, including Matin Studios which has a plethora of options for your linen-loving needs. The best thing about linen is that it’s a breathable natural fibre and it only gets better with wear and washes.
