Danielle Mulham is the founder and creative director of POSSE, the label known for defining a modern take on elevated coastal style. Raised on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Danielle’s appreciation for considered design began early, later leading her to study styling and creative direction at Melbourne’s Whitehouse Institute of Design. Her time in fashion retail further grounded her understanding of what women actually want to wear—pieces that are timeless, versatile, and feel effortless.

A formative trip to Bali became the quiet catalyst for what would eventually become POSSE. There, Danielle connected with local artisans and began experimenting with linen tailoring, creating pieces for herself that soon caught the attention of friends back home. What began as a personal project evolved into a brand in 2016, built on the principles of simplicity, craftsmanship, and restraint.

Mulham has positioned Posse as an attainable brand within the luxury space, a considered balance of quality, accessibility, and aspiration. With stockists that include some of the world’s most respected retailers, the label has found a global audience. But it’s Danielle’s focus on practicality and wearability that keeps women coming back, pieces designed to be lived in, not just admired.

POSSE’s core fabrications are grounded in linen - what is it that draws you to this fabric and why do you think that it resonates with women all over the world?

I’ve always been drawn to linen for its lightness, breathability, and ability to hold its shape so beautifully. It’s the kind of fabric that travels well and wears even better. I love that you can dress it up or down - it’s perfect for the woman who’s always on the go, but still wants to feel considered and put together.

The brand has been worn by some very famous people - who has had the most impact on the brand and the growth of the business?

We’ve been so lucky to see POSSE on so many incredible women around the world. From Sofia Richie and Lily Collins to Meghan Markle and Angelina Jolie. But it’s not just the well-known names - the growth of the brand has truly been shaped by everyone who’s worn and supported POSSE, whether that’s a celebrity, a creator, a tastemaker, or one of our lovely customers. Each person has contributed in their own way, and that’s something we’re really proud of. For me personally, the biggest ‘pinch-me’ moment is when I spot POSSE out and in the wild, seeing how that person has styled and put together that look is where the true magic lies.

Also, how does it make you feel to create something that has been so well received?

There is nothing that warms my heart more than seeing POSSE being worn and loved by women all over the world. I particularly love seeing how each woman brings her POSSE pieces to life and makes them her own - styling them in ways that feel personal and true to her.

POSSE has a strong core offering and items that are quintessentially ‘POSSE’. How long did it take to land on these styles and how do you approach evolving the brand while still offering the styles you have become known for?

It definitely didn’t happen overnight -  it’s taken time, intuition, and a lot of listening to land on the styles that feel truly core to POSSE. From the beginning, I’ve been drawn to pieces that feel timeless and versatile, and over the years, certain silhouettes have naturally become part of our DNA. They’re the pieces our customers come back to time and time again and I think that says a lot. As the brand continues to grow, I’m always thinking about how we can evolve without losing sight of who we are. It’s about building on that foundation and introducing newness in a way that still feels considered and connected to the heart of POSSE.

You have just had your second child - what does having a newborn and a young family look like as a Founder and Director of a business for you?

It has definitely been a juggle! But it’s a beautiful chaos, to be honest. There are moments where it feels incredibly rewarding, and others where it’s completely overwhelming - but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having a newborn while running a business means I’ve had to become even more intentional with my time. I’m learning to embrace the slower moments when I can, and to let go of the idea of balance looking perfect. Some days it flows, some days it doesn’t - and that’s okay! I’m also grateful for my incredible team and for being surrounded with people who understand my vision and can carry it forward, especially when life pulls you into other (very special!) roles.

What is your current style uniform?

Having just had my second child, I’m currently spending a lot of time at home so it’s all about comfort for me at the moment. I’m definitely gravitating towards ease and comfort, however I still like to feel put together for my mind to stay productive and pieces that make me feel good! I’ve been living in our linen trousers and have been pairing these with a baby tee or oversized knit during the day. If heading out to dinner, the Rio Shift Jacket paired back with vintage denim has been my go-to staple, it’s so chic and elevated and I just love how I feel when I wear it.
