The Maternity Edit

The Maternity Edit

Going into my second pregnancy and growing at a much faster pace thanks to being the home to twin girls this time around, I’m quickly finding my feet with my maternity style.

Luckily my love for a capsule wardrobe paired with consciously shopping my own closet and learning from my first pregnancy has me well equipped to know what will work for my changing shape without too many moments of feeling as though I have nothing to wear.

Also as this is very (Very!) likely my last pregnancy i’m extra aware of not buying anything that will only serve its purpose for the next few months. I really want to make sure that anything I'm purchasing will be able to be worn during postpartum or into next summer and the years ahead.

Read on for my must have maternity essentials I’m reaching for this pregnancy.

Tiered Sundress

Tiered sundress

The loose tiered sundress is a great style I lean on every summer, so I'm glad it’s perfect for a growing bump as well. It's nice to have that more fitted section around the bust to define your shape before falling in the loose skirt. An obvious inclusion in any maternity edit, especially over the summer months.

Fitted knit dress

Once you try on a knit dress with a bump you’ll want to wear nothing else. These are great as they stretch with the bump and are super comfortable. Anna Quan always does a good knit dress and I love that this one has the breastfeeding friendly top half that is perfect looking ahead into that postpartum period and into winter.

Bias Slip Dress

Bias Slip Dress

I wore a lot of bias slip dresses during my first pregnancy and have revisited them again this time. They’re a great option for a more figure hugging style that also feels light on the body. It also surprises me how much bump you can fit into a good bias cut without having to size up. They work beautifully with an open shirt for a light summer layer and work well for more dressed up occasions.

Elastic Waist Pants

Elastic waist pants

Even though dresses are so comfortable over a bump it’s nice to wear a pant and have that styling option available. Elastic waisted pants are essential and I tend to go for one size up from my pre pregnancy size for comfort. This way they’re also a great comfortable pant for postpartum as well. Depending on the style of the pants and how big the bump is I’ll either keep the pants sitting high, roll down the elastic waistband so it sits low and create more of a low rise shape at the front. Fold the band under for a more streamlined waistband if you think it's going to be exposed.

The Linen Set

Linen set

These linen sets by Deiji are a non negotiable for me and each season I seem to add another colour to my collection. Comfortable, multi functional and you can open the door to a courier without being embarrassed. With their elastic waist shorts and loose fitted shirt this is the outfit you’ll be leaning on when you just want to feel comfortable, especially over summer. They also turn into my postpartum uniform and are a great gift for new mum.

The Matching Lounge Set

The matching lounge set

Matching sets always make you feel good and look that little more put together, a quality I’m continuously searching for from my wardrobe with a growing bump. This matching Deiji set feels like its made for soon to be mums with its long, loose fitted tee and elastic pants. Dress up the look with accessories like a statement bracelet, necklace or earrings to elevate.
