How To Reflect, Review and Refocus Mid Year

How To Reflect, Review and Refocus Mid Year

These days, it feels that all we need to do is blink and 6 months can fly by. Subsequently, the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year have gotten away from us and we need to rail ourselves in and refocus.

To get our mindset back on track, we've asked the advice from the most organised person we know, Beck Wadworth, who has made being organised her career with her business An Organised Life

She doesn't just sell beautiful notebooks and diaries, Beck is super passionate about goal setting, and has taught us a thing or two about taking a dreamy goal and making it a reality.

Mid year always comes as a bit of a shock, and a realisation at how fast the year is going by. What should you do mid year in order to get your goals back on track?

Mid year is the best time to reflect, review and refocus - I'm a big believer in this and it can really allow you to create direction to tick off those goals and ultimately live your best life for the next 6 months.

First things first, I think you need to sit down and look at your original goals you set at the start of the year - personal, professional and career focused.

REFLECT on where you are at, REVIEW if they are still the most important goals to be focusing on and if they are REFOCUS by setting smaller tasks/stepping stones for each week or month that will allow you to tick off those goals by the end of the year.

Do you believe in mid year resolutions or should we stick to the ones we’ve already committed to?

Ultimately the goals you set at the start of the year were meant to create focus and direction for the next 12 months so ideally you want to carry on with those goals.

However, sometimes you might be ahead of your plan, you might have ticked a few goals earlier than expected or things might have changed which will mean that you NEED to set new goals and direction for the next 6 or 12 months. Everyone's different but if you reflect, review and refocus you will be fine. You do you!

How can we use our already half full diaries to review and reflect on the year so far?

If you are using your An Organised Life Diary (haha!) There is a section in the middle of the diary dedicated to this right after the month of June.

Utilise this section to put pen to paper and plan those tasks and stepping stones. I also find it handy to write deadlines in my diary on certain dates that I want to finish tasks on so that I remain on track.

Do you have any mid year rituals to reset and refocus to set yourself up for a great second half of the year?

I do, it's one of my favourite times in the year. I think its really important to put a couple of hours aside to A. Celebrate all the hard work and progress you have made so far - some times you forget how much you have accomplished B. Reflect and Review on where you are at - what has been good, bad, challenging and what do you want to change. It can be confronting but it's seriously the best thing you can do. C. Get inspired and create direction and focus for the next 6 months! The days fly by and there is so much I always want to achieve - it's nice sitting down and really prioritising. I usually do a big overhaul of my calendars at this time too to make sure I am on track to achieve everything I want to.

What's one of the biggest lessons you have learned so far this year?

To trust my gut! And to back myself when I have done the research and the hard yards. I finally went full time on An Organised Life and i think the next 6 months will probably be the most confronting having just myself to count on for paying the bills and my salary etc, however I know it will also be some of the best months too - pushing myself and An Organised Life even further.
